Google OS!!!?? Meh

I just got a call from a friend who is an super Google fan boy. Of course he wants to talk about Googles new Chrome OS. His question, “What do you think about that?”

My answer:

Meh so what? Number one it won’t be here until mid late 2010 & got bigger fish to fry. This was an obvious move for them because it supports their big WAVE movement. Honestly I have an Iphone & although the service sucks I can do pretty much anything I want from my phone.
Google makes kiddie stuff too
Oh right but it’s made for the web. Meaning Google wants to make everything in the cloud. Yeah that sounds safe. I’m sorry but I don’t trust people. I can’t trust politicians or my dog sometimes! Yet you want me to trust the cloud? Put all of your info and data into the cloud. Install stuff? Nah trust the cloud. The world is a beautiful place with evil people messing it up.

No cloud for me yet Sir. Did I forget the HUGE impact that the Android aka G1 phone made. Nope it just sucks. Bottom line is that its not great even though the Googles hype machine talked it up.. when it got to the prom it couldn’t dance! Please don’t try to tell me it’s too new & needs time to grow. The Iphone came in like a lion, and then continues to roar like a lion. Heck people with Palm Pres even rave about them.

So before I get all gaga over Googles OS can I see it first. I use Mac & PC so they are going to need some awesome crap to get my money. “But its not for you doc… well if its not for me then its to small of a market! Because I waste my money on all the toys! lmao”

My friend being the true fan boy that he is he hung up on me! I think I might have said a few bad words in the phone conversation, but I forget that stuff fast! =o)

Question for you! What do you think about Google making an Operating System?

Well, with the chrome, it was more about trying to force some kind of more efficient standard by creating some competition, and then making all that tech open-source. Personally, I always thought the browser was fun and introduced some new concepts, but not really practical.
I'm thinking this new OS will be the same thing. In fact, I believe Engadget or something compared it to Silverlight and Flash, seeing it as more of a platform for Google then a competitive venture into the OS market. I think it's that using an OS just as a platoform is kind of stupid(you're asking someone to abandon their OS X or Windows 7 for a just a platform?), but it does make some sense in the same way the Chrome browser was a platofrm. Assuming it's open source, this might allow some people to incorporate some nice features and maybe create some standards in cloud computing(something really necessary in my oppinion, but that hasn't been done yet). Still, it'll probably be a fun and innovative toy I'll play with for a bit.
  • Everything you said sounds great. But to me its wishful thinking Android platform is useless for the most part. I hope they do something cool.. I like you will give it a try and find out!
